Waterproof Decking Material that Safeguards Surfaces

Miracote MiraFlex II Decking System is a multi-layered promenade deck coating consisting of formulated resins, cementitious underlayment and waterproof membrane. Designed to provide a decorative finished waterproof deck surfacing, MiraFlex II is ideally suited for either new construction or deck renovation. MiraFlex II is also available as an under tile roof deck membrane system for application over approved wood or concrete substrates.

MiraFlex II finished promenade roof deck, with proper preparation, can be applied over concrete, magnesite, elastomeric decking or plywood. For application over plywood, a metal lath reinforced underlayment (MiraPatch Series) is applied prior to the application of MiraFlex II Decking System. Learn More>

Why Use Cementitious Waterproofing to Protect and Fortify Concrete Decks

Concrete is a great material used in constructing decking systems, parking decks, and other structures. Apart from being durable, this material does not rot, rust, or burn. It is, however, porous by nature. Water (or even just water vapor) can undermine the stability and strength of concrete and result in deterioration. The damage becomes more profound when a corrodible material, such as steel, reinforces the concrete.

The good news is that you can perform cementitious waterproofing to protect concrete decks and prolong their lifespan. This method utilizes cementitious waterproofing membranes to shield concrete against moisture and water.

When you take the time to waterproof deck surfaces made of concrete, you can prevent spalling, a maintenance problem that causes the surface to flake off or peel. When left untreated, spalling can ruin a deck’s aesthetic appearance, as you’ll find unsightly pits and patches on the surface. On top of that, it can compromise the integrity of the surface.

Repairing a spalled concrete takes several steps, including cleaning the affected concrete area, getting rid of the loose concrete, applying a special repair material to fix the spalling, and curing the concrete. Rather than take these steps, you can prevent spalling altogether by effectively waterproofing the decking material.

The Characteristics of Cementitious Waterproofing

A deck with a cementitious coating provides you with the following benefits:

  • Chemical Resistant – You can apply this type of coating on decks that are susceptible to chemical spills
  • Resistance to Weather and Abrasion –If exposure or wear is going to be a problem in your facility, you can apply cementitious coating to keep surfaces protected
  • Flexible – The increased adhesion of cementitious coatings makes surfaces breathable. This means that water vapor won’t get stuck or result in blistering.

We have the waterproof deck surfacing systems that you can use for roof decks, pool decks, mechanical room floors, and more. Contact us for more information.
